 Alrighty, today we’re takin’ it back to the old school. This outfit is 100% something I would have worn to my classes in college — skinny jeans, flats, basic top purchased on super super sale from Urban Outfitters. In fact, aside from the flats, everything here is something I purchased and wore back in my UCLA days. Right now I am all about reinventing the old rather than just bringing home new finds. Speaking of reinventing, there is a reason why I have been so quiet on the blog and social accounts this week…any guesses?

I am quite ready for spring. I love the soft color palette of the season and the ability to wear girly outfits without worry of colder temps. This season I am looking to more ladylike pieces than I usually wear, items that are a bit more tailored, and even a few pairs of flats. I tend to gravitate towards boxy and boho, so I am excited to mix things up a smidge.

How to Have The Most Fabulous Valentine’s Day

We are just days aways from Valentine’s Day and this year (like many years) I am sensing a lot of negativity towards the holiday. Single friends, married friends, somewhere-in-between friends all seem united in turning their backs on the mushiest day of the year. Before we all shy away from the candy and cards, can we just stop and reconsider for a sec? Let’s stop thinking of Valentine’s Day as a day to receive love from others and start thinking of it as a day to give some much needed love to yourself and those around you. I think a day centered on love is a good day to stop and think about the things we appreciate in our daily routines, in others, and most importantly in ourselves (how often do we forget that?) No matter what the holiday is, I never want to miss an opportunity to celebrate and enjoy a treat or two — so single, married, or something more complicated, here are a few small ways to make the day feel more filled with love…

For the sake of easing our drought crisis, I know this rain is great news. For the sake of my own superficial and super selfish happiness, I kinda hate it. I have been looking for some clever ways to get around the issues it brings me and I think this outfit hits all the marks I need to feel better about this much needed weather. Frizzy hair? Beanie. Seasonal affect disorder? Brightly colored apparel. Chapped lips? Hot pink gloss. Cold temps? Hot latte! General feelings of missing the sun? Chanel bag (I mean rock a vintage Chanel and tell me you’re still sad.) With a coat this fun I think I might be able to handle the rain after all…

rainy day, lazy day

There hasn’t been a lot of fashion happening in the Quint Gressel household this week; it’s both been raining and I’ve been getting over the flu so I have been living in my leopard print sweats (see above!). When I go to the office I get dressed of course, but any moments at home are all about the warm and fuzzies — comfy soft clothes and snuggles with the pup. Above are some of the items that I am completely swooning over during this (much needed) California rain. And since there haven’t been a lot of opportunities to snap photos while we’re out, a few images from around the house during this downpour…

I am a joke when it comes to being weather appropriate. Vegan leather is water resistant, right? Come rainy season I pretty much put my hair in a top knot, throw Uggs in my car just in case and then proceed to wear whatever I feel like. If you can believe it, this kind of outfit is actually a vast improvement from my high school rainy day ensembles in which me and my girlfriends would wear flip flops. Not only that, but at 16 I hadn’t yet discovered the power of a good tailor so all of my jeans were about 3 inches too long and sopping wet to the knee by 2nd period. One day I’ll learn, today’s not that day.

I wish I were one of those cool girls who didn’t care about Valentine’s Day and was above all the pomp and circumstance, but…. I am so not that girl. I am a big believer that if there is something to be celebrated, I am gonna celebrate it DAMNIT! Birthdays, holidays, Tuesday, raise at work, finished a book, a yoga class, drank enough water for the day…whatever (mundane thing…) it all deserves attention in my book. Life is short so I never want to miss an opportunity to pop champagne or eat a honkin’ slice of cake!
