If there is one thing I love it’s a BIG pair of shoes. At 5’2” I spend a lot of my day staring up at people, climbing on cabinets to reach dishes, and just generally standing on my tippy toes trying to grab/see/do things that weren’t made for munchkins like me. The truth is though, I love being short! As a kid I always felt like a shrimp, but as an adult it just means “bring on the heels!”

a little wednesday whimsy

There is something I call the “squee” factor. It’s when I see a photo and I just can’t help but say “*squeeeee* how cute!!!” I don’t usually know why I love it, these images rarely serve any actual purpose for me. It can’t be explained, they’re just beautiful and addicting. It’s the factor that makes Pinterest and Instagram so engaging. It’s taking everyday life and somehow making it feel extraordinary and whimsical in some way. Today I wanted to share some of my latest whimsical finds. I’ve done the drive from San Francisco to Los Angeles and back more times than I can count. There was a time in college where we did this drive probably twice a month, so I feel like I know this drive. But this past weekend something cool happened — I actually noticed my surroundings. Usually Amit and I are too busy rapping every lyric to every GirlTalk album for all 6 hours and stuffing our faces with popcorn and Sour Patch kids to notice anything else, but when we stopped for gas at the halfway mark I noticed how pretty the mountains were. I have the blog to thank for this. I started this as a space to be creative and I am so happy it has started to bleed into all aspects of my life. I hadn’t intended to photograph my wrinkly top when we first got in the car, but the surroundings were too perfect not to stop for. Thank you to Amit for the impromptu mid road-trip photoshoot!

This past weekend I packed my bags and headed on a road trip to my favorite city in the world, LA. It was great seeing all of our friends and eating at all of our favorite spots, we had such a fun silly time. It has been tricky adjusting to a new city, but this past weekend reminded us that there are adventures to be had in any city, discoveries to be made, rituals to be created… We spent the drive back making a list of things to do and try in San Francisco, just sort of setting our intentions for our time in the bay area and I can honestly say I am so excited to get started! Here’s to a new week and new adventures. 🙂

Friday Five: My Favorite LA Spots

Happy Friday! I don’t know if you could tell from some of my recent posts, but… I really miss LA. Don’t get me wrong, San Francisco has its charm, great weather, fun food, friendly people, but we just don’t have that chemistry that I have with Los Angeles. I feel like if you could have a city soul-mate, mine would be the Brentwood Village in LA. Lucky for me I get to go back today! After 5 long months away from my love I am so eager to return for a quick weekend visit to see my friends, and of course, my fav foods! I know it’s friday “five” but I just can’t limit myself today! Here are a few of the spots I can’t wait to hit up in LA…

I like to keep things as light and fun as possible when it comes to fashion — too much of life is serious enough as it is. But guys, it has been a week. Work stress up the wazoo, stolen credit card, delayed trains that have turned my normal hour and a half commute into 3 hour+ torture sessions, many stress relieving gym trips missed due to said delays, topped with a whopping case of homesickness. So for this gorgeous Friday I thought I would keep it simple and hit my reset button. There is something comforting about throwing on a sweater, a broken-in pair of jeans and surrendering to the comforts in life. All I can say is TGIF!

Have y’all met Koshy? Kosher is my 3 year old west highland terrier/maltese fur baby. Gressel and I adopted this little monster just about a year ago and he has made the last year brighter and more amazing than we ever could have imagined. Kosher was rescued by Forte Animal Rescue after he was abandoned at a high kill shelter. He was malnourished, sick, his fur was a tangled mess, but in spite of all Kosher was a smiling pile of love when we met him. He had a grin from ear to ear and was as playful as can be. He also has a severe underbite and sits all crooked with his back legs out to the side and his front legs in a perfect plie like a ballerina — two things I simply adore about him. When we saw him we knew he was the next member of our family. Kosher celebrates his one year adoption birthday with us this Sunday and I couldn’t be happier to have this little man in my life! I’m simply smitten.
